Site Improvements, Cradle of Aviation Description 
Bowne and its subconsultants developed both an overall master plan and a phasing plan for Nassau County’s museum complex at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, NY. This complex includes a new visitor center, Imax theater, Cradle of Aviation Museum, and the Long Island Children’s Museum. In the future, the museum complex will also include separate buildings for the Firefighter’s Museum and the old Nunley’s Carousel.
Bowne was responsible for the design, coordination and preparation of the various construction documents needed to complete all of the site improvements within the museum complex, i.e., new parking fields, drainage, lighting, pedestrian promenade, special event areas, traffic signal, and both high temperature and chilled water lines from the County’s consolidated utility plant, etc. Initially, three sets of construction documents were prepared by Bowne for the Hospital Road parking field, Phase I site utilities, and Phase I building demolition. Bowne then prepared plans and specifications for the general site improvements within the Phase I area and construction documents for the second phases of both the site improvements and building demolition contracts.
