September 2006 Charles J. Bartha Joins Bowne as Associate Partner; The partners of Sidney B. Bowne & Son, LLP of Mineola announced that Charles J. Bartha, P.E., former Commissioner of Public Works for Suffolk County and Leslie A. Mitchel, former Deputy Commissioner of Public Works for Suffolk County have joined the firm as Associate Partner and Director of Community Relations, respectively. At Suffolk County Department of Public Works (DPW), Mr. Bartha was the Commissioner responsible for the design and construction of many major projects during his tenure including the $25M Riverhead court addition, the $20M Citibank Ballpark, the $140M jail addition, as well as over $100M of expansion and improvements to sewerage facilities. Mr. Bartha managed a $225M operating budget and a $100M capital budget annually. At Suffolk County DPW since 1998, Ms. Mitchel was the chief administrative officer, overseeing the efficient operation of the 900 person department.
