Bowne Management Systems, Inc., part of the Bowne AE&T Group, is pleased to announce that Richard B. Steinberg has joined the firm as a Senior Consultant. Mr. Steinberg is a well respected leader in the New York City information technology (IT) and Geographic Information System (GIS) communities. A resident of Manhattan, Mr. Steinberg comes to Bowne Management Systems following his recent retirement from the NYC Department of City Planning (DCP). At DCP, where he worked for almost 25 years, he served as the long-time director of DCP’s Geographic Systems Section, one of the largest and most sophisticated public sector GIS operations in the U.S., which he helped establish. Mr. Steinberg spearheaded the creation of several critical and remarkable New York City databases, maps, and applications, which are used on a daily basis by over 30 City agencies. He provided the technical expertise required to create the LION digital base map and the GeoSupport System, and was a principal conceptualizer of NYCMAP. His career began as a computer application analyst and system programmer at several large corporations and he held the position of Assistant Coordinator at the NYC Board of Education. Mr. Steinberg has a B.A. in Mathematics from New York University, an M.A. in Mathematics from SUNY Stony Brook, and an M.S. in City and Regional Planning from Pratt Institute. Mr. Steinberg will assist the firm’s technical management team by performing and supervising analysis, design, and implementation tasks related to complex IT and GIS projects. His impressive education, unique experience and innovation within the GIS industry, and extensive understanding of street network logic and routing, will enhance the firm’s resources and ability to provide its customers with quality, leading-edge products and services.
