Handheld Wireless Maintenance Work Order Application

Description
Bowne developed a handheld wireless application for use by the Maintenance of Equipment (MofE) Department
to conduct maintenance work orders on the LIRR Rail Fleet. This application allows MofE to
service the entire fleet along the Right of Way, minimizing key strokes with the use of
two-dimensional bar-coding technology. The database design enables real-time access
to the existing Rolling Stock Maintenance System (RSMS) through a wireless local area network
and Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD), providing the department with up-to-the-minute
data access.
