Integrated Spatial Data System
US Army Corps of Engineers
North Atlantic Division, New York District
Operations Division
Description
Bowne developed a suite of web-based tools that automate the project management workflow process
for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, New York District Operations Division.
A major responsibility of the Operations Division is management of the maintenance dredging program in the New York District.
With many complex dredging projects to manage simultaneously, project managers needed a tool to track all phases of the project
life cycle including planning, obtaining environmental clearances and permits, preparing plans and specifications, contracting,
dredging oversight, and determination of the water depths available in the channel for navigation.
Bowne created the Integrated Spatial Data System (ISDS), a web-based environment encompassing:
  |
A rules-based workflow application that allows project managers to develop and track project plans and to assess overall program
execution and efficiency. The system also provides automatic alerts to responsible individuals to initiate next steps and
facilitate approvals.
|
  |
An application that displays images of navigation areas and provides access to condition surveys, specification surveys,
hand-written dredging records, and historical survey data
|
  |
Links to the databases of survey control information, channel dimensions and historic harborline maps
|
By automating a formerly paper-based process, improving information sharing, and heightening awareness of problems,
the new system has greatly improved project management effectiveness within the New York District Operations Division.
