Accident Location Information System
New York State Department of Motor Vehicles
New York State Department of Transportation
New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination
Description
Bowne Management Systems is a subcontractor to Environmental Systems Research Institute
(ESRI) on the Accident Location Information System (ALIS) project. Three New York State
agencies have partnered to replace their obsolete accident location coding system with a
more efficient and accurate system using modern GIS technology to locate and analyze accidents.
One of the major components of this project is the development of a new statewide GIS roads
file, the New York State Data Product, which includes all NYS roads at a scale of at least
1:24,000, attributed with up-to-date street names and address ranges. ALIS will integrate
with DMV’s Accident Information System and DOT’s Safety Information Management System.
Bowne is responsible for developing four client-side applications that make up ALIS: Location
Coding Data Entry, Location Editing/Simple Query and Reporting, Map Maintenance
Notification and Tracking, and Street Name Editor. ESRI is responsible for the server-side
component that provides complex geocoding services and spatial querying capabilities.
